COPERNICO 38

Copernico 38 – designed by Alessia Garibaldi, Marco Vigo and Giorgio Piliego – involved converting the interior spaces of a 1960s building in terms of both functionality and interior design. The creation of a business centre expresses a new concept of work, combining office space and common areas such as café, gym, library, coworking areas and cinema.

Situated a stone’s throw from the Milan Central Station, the building covers an interior area of approximately 14,000 m2 and 2,000 m2 of green space, which has been landscaped.

Speed, the search for a balance between private life and work life, and its fine line which seems increasingly less clear and defined, leading us to wonder about the future and comfort of the workplace.

The solutions found for Copernico take into account the need to rethink the workplace in a brand new way, placing the individual in the centre of stimulating and complex spaces. The design proposals have been re-conceived and occasionally custom re-designed where standard solutions were not considered sufficiently appropriate, as in the case of the “non-reception”, which performs the function of reception even before that of filtering and visitor management. In particular, this project has been marked by issues of flexibility, movement and the constant overspilling of the boundaries between home and office.

Nordic tradition has absorbed many aspects earlier than we have and has given importance to the influence of design of people’s well-being and on the issue of ecocompatibility.

Copernico has been inspired by this Nordic tradition, which has made it stand out for its industrial and elegant ambiance. Tailor-made solutions, the use of natural materials, such as Northern wood, all result in a uniform, consistent, warm and cosy environment which can be adapted to a range of possible uses.
