In continuity with CAMERA, the Italian Centre for Photography, the store is part of the ancient architectural complex called Isolato di Santa Pelagia, in the heart of Turin, in Via delle Rosine 18.
Here Leica, the leading brand in the manufacture and sale of cameras and precision optical instruments, amplifies its exhibition and commercial purposes by giving priority to the academy function, in a dialogue involving the CAMERA museum space, a place for public use, dedicated to promotion of national and international photography via open encounters with artists and institutions.
Drawing inspiration from the image of the camera obscura – the optical device that was the precursor to the camera – the square floor plan and the dynamism of the classroom were used to create a box inside the store that breaks up the space into several areas for a variety of uses: a photographic exhibition, display and viewing of cameras, reception of visitors and care of potential buyers.
